Well Matthew's home, thank goodness. It's nice to have him back, that's for sure. Apparently he will have to go back to India sometime in the next couple of months but he's back for a little while anyway.
He asked me what I wanted and I coulnd't think of much, so I just said candy. I love candy from other countries, it's just so interesting to see what they come up with. So he brough me back thinks like gummy "eggs and chips" and gummy "teeth and gums" "foam shrimp and bananas" delicious! Oh, and you have to love that the nutritional information calls Calaories 'energy'. Now that's marketing!
We went to the Spina Bifida clinic on Friday and I asked to have a Neurologist come in and talk to me about Dylan's brain. All we had been told is that she has Holoprosencephaly and that they would know more with the next MRI which was done in May. We hadn't talked to anyone since so I wanted someone to translate. They did and it's was very interesting. Apparently Dylan has no Frontal lobe and no line seperating her right and left hemispheres. Along with that she has very small optic nerves.
What does this mean you ask? Well... I asked! and no one has any idea what it means really. The Nuerologist basically said that they don't know what it means, and that they never write any baby off and she's a good exmple of why. She said that Dylan doesn't match the tests and scans, meeting her, you would never know that her brain looks like it does. Basically, she's exceeding all expectations of her so we were told to just keep doing what we are doing. They were really surprised that she doesn't seem to have any problems with her sight too. I will have to talk to the eye doctor about that I guess, we will see him again in November.
We also saw the Endocrinologist today, that's where Trina works. So Trina came in to chat with us for a while while we waited. The end result of that is that we will likely have to give Dylan growth hormones to help her body build muscle that will in turn help her be more mobile.
The Physical Therapist at the clinic saw her and was very impressed with where she is. That's good to hear. She's just about rolling, but she just needs to motivation to do so. She doesn't like being on her belly, so why would she roll over? She just coasts on her back because it's easiest. He was surprised to hear that we have a Physical Therapist coming once a week because in the program Dylan's in that unheard of. I know that's just because Pat's a fabulous therapist and she basically is giving up her time to come once a week rather then every other week. Talking with the clinic therapist made me really appreciate Pat, that's for sure!
That's the jist of our last appointments. Sorry no time for pictures today, I will hopefully get more up soon! I need to post up the Anderson family pictures since we got them back. For now I need to go tend to Duncan and our little over-acheiver!
